DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Although the B-CU Lady Wildcats led by 10 points at halftime and appeared unstoppable most of the game, the Lady Bulldogs gained some momentum late in the game. The Lady Bulldogs started a 13-4 run beginning with just over eight minutes remaining and rode that to a tie followed by a big lead and eventually winning 73-66.
The Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats got off to a strong start, scoring first and keeping the game tight for part of the first half. Near the midpoint of the first half, B-CU began a scoring run that appeared to break open the game, taking it to SCSU 19-10 in the first half, leading by as much as their 10-point halftime lead, going into the locker room on top of the Lady Bulldogs 35-25.
Coming out in the second half, the momentum of the first carried the Lady Wildcats and it appeared that there was no stopping the Lady Wildcats, keeping the Lady Bulldogs at a safe distance throughout most of the half, leading by as much as 12 points. However, with 8:30 remaining in the game, South Carolina State began to swing the momentum and chip away at the lead, making a 9-2 run to tie it up with just over four minutes on the clock. SCSU continued to ride the momentum wave and took charge of the game's pace. Solid play on both ends and six crucial free throws by SCSU's Sophilia Hipps kept the game just out of reach for the Lady Wildcats and eventually put B-CU away, going on to win 73-66.
Jasmine Daniels put in 13 points for the day in addition to a season and career high 8 assists. Leading B-CU on the boards was Sarah Bolden, earning her eighth double-double of the year, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds despite playing limited time due to early foul trouble.
The Lady Wildcats return to action Monday, Feb. 2, facing the Rams of Winston-Salem State at Moore Gymnasium. The Game tips off at 5:30 p.m.
