TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The LadyCats of Bethune-Cookman volleyball faced off with conference rival Florida A&M, Sunday afternoon. The Lady Rattlers handed Bethune-Cookman its first MEAC defeat of the season, but it didn't come easy. The LadyCats put up a solid fight in the first two sets of the match, before falling 3-0 in scores of 27-25, 25-23, and 25-21.

The LadyCats gave the reigning conference champion Lady Rattlers all they could handle in the first set, as B-CU brought the score back close after recovering from an early deficit. While playing from behind the majority of the set, B-CU overcame a seven-point FAMU lead as the set wound down. A 9-4 B-CU scoring run knotted up the score at 25, but they couldn't hold of the Lady Rattler attack with two Jovana Blazeski kills closing out the set 27-25.

In the second set, B-CU kept it tight again, never allowing FAMU to separate themselves. Keeping up early kept the win very much in reach, with five tied scores and four lead changes. Again B-CU made a late run and locked up the score, but FAMU put the LadyCats away, winning 25-23.

In the final set, B-CU kept it tight, never allowing FAMU to get out of reach, but the LadyCats found themselves in a disadvanted position on the heels of a mid-set 12-6 Lady Rattler scoring run. B-CU kept pace and made up some ground, but the deficit was too much to overcome, as FAMU went on to win 25-21 and take the match 3-0.

B-CU came at Florida A&M from multiple angles, led by Jessica Wilson with 8 kills, followed by Chelle Ticeson with 7 kills, and both Kaiyana Johnson and Janeen Davis finishing with 5 kills each. Daryl Rodriguez collected 15 assists and Julie Gibson finished with 11. Rodriguez also made an impact on defense, notching 10 digs to lead the team, followed by Davis with 9, and Shakhea Moore-Hagins with 7.

For Florida A&M, Jovana Blazeski continued her outstanding season, as she led the team with 20 kills, while also notching a team-high 12 digs. Getting the majority of the sets, Jessica Bond tallied 41 assists on the match.

The LadyCats (8-12, 2-1) take a few days to prepare, but return to the court next Friday, Oct. 30, as they travel to Greensboro, N.C. to rematch with North Carolina A&T at 6 pm.
