PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The Bethune-Cookman cross country teams closed out their season Saturday as they traveled to the MEAC Cross Country Championships. Both teams finished the meet ranked 11th with Alexandria Condell wrapping up her career by topping the women's team and finishing 32nd overall. William Cosby led the men, coming in 48th overall.
Leading the women in the 5k at 32nd, Alexandria Condell finished the course in 21:27.60. Next up for B-CU, Crystal Bardge at 71st (25:38.64), Vanderlynn Watts at 75th (27:49.04), and Ryan Sanders rounding out the team at 76th (27:50.66). The Bethune-Cookman women finished 11th overall at the meet with a total of 300 team points.
On the men's side, William Cosby's 48th place finish in the 8k came in a time of 32:06.80. Following Cosby, Derrick Taylor finished 56th in 32:47.95, Marcell Keeling came in 63rd in 34:04.19, Eric Cray at 74th (40:44.62), and Robert Horton closing out the men's competitors at 75th (42:37.97). "I am pleased with the individual efforts of our athletes," said Interim Head Coach Donald Cooper following the meet, "They are true competitors."
With respect for the state of the program and the future, Coach Cooper added, "We will address our needs to become more competitive in this area in time through recruiting and development. Our staff and current athletes are excited about the possibilities. We now transition our attention to the indoor season."
With no automatic qualifiers for the NCAA Meet, the MEAC Championships bring a close to the 2009 cross country season for Bethune-Cookman.
