GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman Women's Basketball opened play Friday, at the Lady Pirate Invitational, taking on the Lady Pirates of tournament host East Carolina. After keeping it close in the early minutes of the game, ECU began to build a lead, which led them to a significant victory of 95-57.

B-CU went shot for shot with ECU in the beginning of the game, creating three score ties in the early going. Five minutes into the game, ECU broke the deadlock, and began to separate themselves just before the midpoint of the half. ECU finished the half on a 25-10 run that took the teams into the locker room with B-CU down 51-26.

As the half opened, B-CU traded shots with ECU, but couldn't seem to gain any ground. Just after the midpoint of the half, ECU shut down the Lady Wildcat offensive and kept on their scoring path, pushing their lead out to 38 points by the final buzzer. The Lady Pirates went on to win 95-57.

Shooting on the perimeter was less than expected, which hurt the offensive effort of the Lady Wildcats, going 1-9 from three-point range. On the boards, ECU did the most damage to B-CU, contributing to the lopsided loss, with the Lady Pirates outrebounding the Lady Wildcats 56-34. ECU got the best of B-CU in the paint, where the majority of their points came, with the Lady Pirates scoring 52 points in the paint.

Jasmine Bugg led the Lady Wildcats on offense and defense, collecting 15 points and 5 assists, while also snagging 4 steals. On the boards, Euneshia Proctor snagged 8 rebounds to lead B-CU. Demetria Frank scored 12 points, and was the co-leader in assists, also with 5.

The Lady Wildcats (1-5) return to the court tomorrow evening at the Minges Coliseum for more of the Lady Pirate Invitational. B-CU faces off with Eastern Kentucky, Saturday evening at 7 p.m.
