Daytona Beach, Florida -

Bethune-Cookman University (4-5, 3-3 MEAC) beat Hampton University (4-5, 2-4 MEAC) 27-24 on Senior Day at Municipal Stadium.

"They left it all on the field," said B-CU Head Football Coach Alvin Wyatt of his seniors and Wildcat team. "I'm so proud of these guys, they are young and inexperienced. It was good for the seniors to go out on a good note (at home). We still have one big game left at Howard before the Florida Classic."

B- Back Jonathan Moment ran for three touchdowns to pace the B-CU rushing attack but it was defensive back and special teams player Michael Williams who made two big plays to solidify the B-CU home victory Saturday. Williams returned a punt 76 yards for touchdown in the first quarter with an electrifying return. Then in the final minute, he intercepted a Hampton pass in the end zone to preserve the hard-fought MEAC victory over the Pirates.

"Mike (Williams) got us going early with his punt return and for the second time this year - saved the game at the end for us (with an interception)," said B-CU Coach Wyatt. Williams also cemented the Savannah State win in October with a late interception and had a late pick in the 9-7 win at Delaware State. "You could tell by the flow of the game, something was going to break late. And Mike's interception closed it out for us," said Wyatt.

After trailing 24-20 at halftime, Moment broke a 19-yard touchdown run with 10:09 left in the third quarter to put Bethune-Cookman up for good.

Quarterback Matthew Johnson was 10-for-16 with 117 passing yards for the Wildcats, who next play at Howard University, Saturday in Washington, D.C. vs. the Bison.

"Matt took his time and was cool under pressure," said Coach Wyatt. "Our hard work in practice paid off and we got the offense going and scored against a very good Hampton team and defense. We've grown up as a team and we feel positive with what we've been doing.

Hampton (4-5, 2-4) was paced by running back LaMarcus Coker, who rushed for 119 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries. Pirates' quarterback David Legree added 113 passing yards for two touchdowns, while Isiah Thomas finished with 55 receiving yards and a touchdown.

DEFENSE CLOSES OUT VICTORY WITH TWO STANDS IN FOURTH QUARTER

B-CU's defense stood up strong in the final 15 minutes stopping the Pirates on a first and goal from the five yard line following a Wildcat fumble. Hampton missed a game-tying 20 yard field goal with five minutes to play and Williams' interception in the end zone in the final minute preserved the win.
