BALTIMORE, Md. - Although the Lady Wildcats played well and controlled the tempo in the first half, the Lady Bears of Morgan State gained control in the middle of the second half and carried the momentum to down the Lady Wildcats 69-64 in conference rematch in Baltimore.
The Lady Wildcats got on the board first, gaining a four-point lead with just under three minutes into the half. That was the largest lead for B-CU in the half, as the Lady Bears kept up with the Lady Wildcats and maintained a close game throughout the first half. The difference remained within two scores the entire half, and featured nine lead changes, along with four ties. The Lady Wildcats held off the Lady Bears into the half, carrying 29-28 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the locker room, B-CU kept control of the game, leading for most of the second half. However, MSU kept the pressure on, allowing B-CU to get to five points, but otherwise keeping it a solid two-score game. MSU forced eight ties in the first twelve minutes of the second half, but finally grabbed a lead with 8:14 remaining, and only surrendered it one time before the game's conclusion.
The Lady Wildcats kept the game close until four minutes remained, when the Lady Bears took off on an 8-1 run that forced the Lady Wildcats to play from behind and put the Lady Bears on the free throw line. Down a key player in the post due to fouls, Morgan State held off Bethune-Cookman and held on to win 69-64.
Leading the Lady Wildcats in scoring were Sarah Bolden and Euneshia Proctor topped B-CU in rebounds, finishing with 11 boards, also earning her fourth double-double of the year, scoring 10 points.
The Lady Wildcats return home to Moore Gymnasium next Saturday to rematch with Delaware State for homecoming. The Delaware State game is also a big event as B-CU supports Breast Cancer awareness, participating in the WBCA's Pinkzone. The homecoming game tips off Saturday, Feb. 21, at 2:00 p.m. in Moore Gymnasium.
