JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Bethune-Cookman Cross Country teams took to the road Friday, as they headed to Jacksonville to open the 2009 Cross Country season at the JU Short Course Duals meet. The Wildcats turned in some strong individual performances for each team in the meet, but did not fare well as a team in the small field for the meet.

The top finisher for the Wildcats overall was Alexandria Condell, who finished the women's two mile run in a time of 14:14.08 to secure 10th overall in the race. On the men's side, William Cosby took over where he left off last year, leading the Wildcats with a finish of 13th in 20:06.85 in the 5k run.

Behind Cosby, two Wildcats finished in the top 20 overall. Marcell Keeling came in 18th in a time of 20:28.20, followed by Derrick Taylor at 20th with a time of 20:51.74. Following Keeling and Taylor, were Eric Cray (27th, 24:10.55), Chris Herring (28th, 24:33.60), and Demetrius Douglas-Davis (29th, 28:35).

On the Women's side, following Condell were Samantha Sharper (24th, 16:41.90), Lashondra Wilbon (25th, 17:08.60), Vanderlynn Watts (26th, 18:08.75), Jessica Tongue (27th, 18:38.57), and Ryan Sanders rounding out the team at 28th in 18:47.74.

The Wildcats take the course again next Saturday, Sept. 12, as they compete in the UCF Black & Gold Challenge in Orlando, Fla.
