PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Kevin Rono's 22nd place finish highlighted Bethune-Cookman University's performance Saturday at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Cross Country championship at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Cross Country Course/Driving Range.
The senior complete the 8K run in 27 minutes, 20.70 seconds. Florida A&M's Shauib Winters was named the MEAC Top Performer with his first place finish of 24:31.30.
Norfolk State won its 10th MEAC title in the past 11 years with a team total of 34 points. U-MES came in second with 85 points and Howard (92) third. B-CU was 11th of 11 teams with 255.
Other B-CU men's times and finishes include La'Quon Howard (69th, 33:03.30).
In the women's race, freshman Ileis Figueroa's 50th place finish with a 5K time of 21:51.5 paced the Lady Wildcats. Hampton won the team title with 52 points, ahead of South Carolina State (85) and defending MEAC champion Norfolk State (92). B-CU was 11th with 302. Howard's Ashley Hodges won the women's title with a time of 18:19.70.
Other B-CU women's finishes and times include Latorria Grier (61st, 22:30.60); Lashondra Wilbon (66th, 23:02.20); Santaneshia Battle (72nd, 24:24.70) and Tanekia Flowers (73rd, 24:32.40).
