JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Fresh off a road trip which produced split matches, the LadyCats went right back to work, traveling up the coast to rematch with Jacksonville. JU pulled away to stun B-CU in the first set, 25-15, but B-CU fought back to create close sets of 25-21 and 25-23, falling to JU on the road, 3-0.
The first set was full of ups and downs, as B-CU drifted a few scores behind early, but rallied to tied it up and take a slight lead. JU took back the lead and the LadyCats stayed close, but were unable to get over the hill to take a true advantage on the Dolphins. An 8-3 JU run near mid-set created a gap, but B-CU struggled offensively, as JU closed the match on seven consecutive scores, stunning the LadyCats 25-15.
In the second set, with the opposition riding momentum, the LadyCats got in an early hole, rallying to within three on several scores, but they could never break that barrier, leading to a 25-21 loss in the second.
Coming out of the match break, the LadyCats showed composure and the desire to get back into the match, trading scores before taking an early lead over the Dolphins. B-CU held the lead for two extended periods, but JU broke the knotted score at 17-17 with a 6-3 scoring run to take the upper hand. The LadyCats were not ready to surrender, scoring on three consecutive possessions to bring the score to 24-23. JU wrapped up the set with a kill from their top hitter, Alliya Drzewiecki, 25-23 for the 3-0 JU win in the match.
B-CU played well on defense, containing the Dolphin offense at times, and collecting nearly identical digs to JU. Offensively, the LadyCats ran into challenges, hitting just .118 as a team, with three of the top scorers coming up with negative hitting percentages.
Leading B-CU's offense, Jessica Wilson collected 9 kills on .296 hitting, while Jacqueline Woodyear finished with 14 digs.
The next match for the LadyCats (7-22, 2-3 MEAC) is a big one, as B-CU travels to Florida A&M for a rematch on an ESPNU National Broadcast. The match sets off on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 1:00 p.m. in Tallahassee. The Lady Rattlers (8-13, 5-1 MEAC) have taken matches since the opening of MEAC play, but barely escaped Moore Gymnasium with a win.
