Wildcats Win Third Straight, Beat Troy 8-4 In Alabama

Wildcats Long Ball – Solid Pitching Beat Troy University 8-4

Troy, Alabama –

 

Bethune-Cookman University won its third straight game beating Troy University on the road Friday night 8-4.  B-CU (4-7) utilized three home runs to power the 13-hit attack and scored eight runs for the victory over Troy.

 

B-CU went ahead 1-0 in the first inning on a double by and scored on an RBI single by . Wright's team-leading 16th RBI gave the Wildcats an early lead.

 

In the third inning, Lauriello doubled and scored on a home run to make the score 3-0.

 

Troy (3-5), of the Sun Belt Conference, scored two runs in both the third and fourth innings off B-CU starter Ali Simpson to take a 4-3 lead in the ball game.

 

RBI ground outs by Peter O'Brien and hit a solo home run to complete the three-run sixth inning,  with  Cookman up 6-4.

 

Peter O' Brien hit a two run homer in the 7th to up B-CU's lead to 8-4.

 

B-CU's 13 hit attack was led by with three hits (3-5) and four others had two hits each: Brandon Turner 2-4, Lauriello 2-5, Perez 2-4, and Castro 2-4.

 

Simpson – Anselmo – Perez Combine For Pitching Victory

Simpson (1-1) earned the pitching win throwing 6 innings, striking out three, walking three and allowing 7 hits and 4 earned runs in his top start of the 2010 season. Chris Anslemo continued his solid relief pitching with a scoreless two innings in the 7th and 8th innings.

 

Wildcat closer pitched the ninth inning for his first save of the year, striking out two in the ninth for the win. It was B-CU's third straight victory with home wins earlier in the week vs. Stetson and Jacksonville University.

 

Game two of the three game series vs. Troy is set for Saturday at 6 p.m.
