SAVANNAH, Ga. – Bethune-Cookman salvaged its two-match road trip and snapped a three-match losing streak with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-21) Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory over Savannah State Sunday afternoon.
Janeen Davis had 14 kills and Krysta Gardner and Linda Nwabuko 10 each for the Lady Wildcats, who improved to 7-10 overall and 1-1 in MEAC Southern Division play. Recovering from Friday's 3-0 loss to South Carolina State, B-CU jumped out to leads of 6-0 and 5-0 in the first two sets and pulled away from a 12-12 tie in the third.
“I was glad to see us bounce back from Friday's loss,” said B-CU coach Isaac Raphael.
“It was nice to see us go back to fundamentals.” Gardner and Jennifer Jimenez each had 10 digs on defense, while Frances Rodriguez recorded 22 assists while splitting time with freshman Aubrianna Curtis, who posted 11 assists.
B-CU begins a five-match homestand next weekend, facing North Carolina A&T Friday and North Carolina Central Saturday in historical Moore Gymnasium.
