DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman University's Marc Misanovic and Katarina Szaboova were both named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Second Team All Conference Tennis selections on the eve of the league tournament, it was announced Thursday.
Misanovic, a junior from Ljubljana, Slovenia, compiled a 7-8 record at No. 1 singles for the Wildcat men while Szaboova, a junior Komarno, Slovakia, won nine of her final ten matches to post a 10-8 mark at No. 1 singles for the Wildcat women. Sbavoova also combined with Stacey Lopez for an 8-5 mark at No. 1 doubles.
"We're very pleased that efforts of both Marc and Katarina were recognized," said B-CU coach Trey Bogue.
The MEAC tournament begins Friday at the Millbrook Tennis Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. South Carolina State's men's team has won three straight titles while the SCSU women's team won last year.
The B-CU men (7-10 overall, 1-2 MEAC South) will face Morgan State Friday at noon while the Lady Wildcats (5-14,2-2) will meet Delaware State Friday at 8:30 a.m.
"The women's team has been riddled with injuries all season and we'll have our hands full with Delaware State, but the last time I checked we're still Bethune-Cookman and we do everything it takes to win," Bogue said. "The men have a tough match against a tough Morgan State team that we'll need to bring our "A" game for us to succeed."
