LYNCHBURG, Va. - Just one week after receiving his first All-American nod, big things are happening for Scott Garner once again. In addition to his slot among Louisville Slugger Freshman All-Americans, Garner was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) First Team Freshman All-America team this week. That makes his second Freshman All-America honor and his third major honor of the year.

After wrapping up the season with a 9-2 record, 2.48 ERA, and 50 strikeouts, the rookie from Port Orange saw the accolades start to roll in. Just before the MEAC Championships, he received a first-ever honor of being named both the MEAC Rookie and Pitcher of the Year. Shortly after the conclusion of the Wildcats' season, he was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team, and now he joins the 34-man Freshman All-America squad as named by the NCBWA.

The 2011 NCBWA Freshman All-American Team features players from 17 conferences and seven conference championship teams. The ACC, Atlantic Sun, MEAC and SEC placed two players apiece on the first team. Joining Garner on the team from MEAC is North Carolina A&T shortstop Luke Tendler.

Garner is still in the running for more honors from the NCBWA, as the 2011 NCBWA National Freshman Player of the Year and National Freshman Pitcher of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, June 14.
