NORFOLK, Va. – After an outstanding week at the plate, Bethune-Cookman senior shortstop Brashad Johnson received the fifth B-CU conference honors of the 2012 season, officials from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced Monday. Johnson was named the MEAC Player of the Week after helping the Wildcats to a 3-2 record this week, including a series sweep of North Carolina A&T.
The New Hope, Minn. native posted a .619 batting average on the week, going 13-for-21 at the plate, including two doubles, four runs scored, and nine RBI. He also recorded seven stolen bases and a .714 slugging percentage during the five games.
In the second game of the series against North Carolina A&T, he was 4-for-6 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI in a 15-13 victory over the Aggies.
Defensively, he also logged 18 assists, fielding three double plays, in addition to seven putouts.
This is Johnson's first conference honor of the season, and of his two-year career at Bethune-Cookman.
The Wildcats (27-18) travel Tuesday for the rematch with FIU (25-18) in Miami. The first pitch for the matchup with the Panthers is set for 4:00 p.m. at the FIU Baseball Stadium.
