DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman takes a break from Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division play starting Tuesday with a non-conference match against UNF in Moore Gym.
The Lady Cats (4-18) will play non-conference matches before resuming October 25 at home against Savannah State. Two of the matches are at MEAC Northern Division teams, but will not count in the conference standings.
B-CU UPDATE: The Lady Cats finished the first half of MEAC tied with North Carolina A&T with a 3-2 league, two matches behind Florida A&M and one ahead of South Carolina State and North Carolina Central. The two four teams qualify for the MEAC tournament next month in Baltimore.
Sophomore Delicia Pierre is ranked 14th in the nation in service aces, averaging .049 per set. Hampton's Vendula Strakova (0.52) leads the MEAC is ninth in the country. Pierre's also 93rd in the country in scoring, averaging 4.11 points per set.
Freshman setter Alexas Thomas went over the 600 assist mark for the season Friday against Florida A&M. Her current total of 603 assists is the eighth best single-season total in school history. Thomas needs another 421 to break Shirona Trotter's single-season school record of 1,023.
UNF UPDATE: The Ospreys (5-12) dropped a 3-1 setback to cross-town rival Jacksonville Friday. They've faced Florida A&M, with the Rattlers winning in five sets back in September. Anna Budinska leads UNF with 207 kills. The Ospreys lead the all-time series 14-1.
