DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Delivering a home slate ripe with opportunities to catch the Wildcats live on the diamond, Bethune-Cookman Head Baseball Coach Jason Beverlin released the 2014 B-CU schedule on Wednesday (Oct. 30) evening, in tandem with the conclusion of fall ball practices.
The Cats will take the field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark 26 times in 2014, the highest home total since the 2010 campaign. The 2014 slate will also feature nine games against 2013 NCAA Tournament teams, with a highly-loaded ramp up into the MEAC Baseball Championships in May.
“I'm really excited about our schedule,” Beverlin said, “especially with who we have coming to Daytona Beach. With so many chances, I really hope to see a lot of fans come out to support the Wildcats.”
While playing at “The Jack”, the Wildcats have tailored their schedule to match the scheduling needs of the Daytona Cubs, which produced a very front-heavy home schedule; one that could produce a Senior Day event as early as the first week of April.
The final three weeks of the regular season may be the toughest of the year for the Wildcats, but may also do the most good in ramping up B-CU's level of play as they head to Norfolk, Va.. looking to regain their conference title at the MEAC Baseball Championships. During that span, the Wildcats face road series at College of Charleston, Washington, and 2013 MEAC Champion Savannah State, in addition to single-game tilts at Georgia Southern, Fla.orida Atlantic and Auburn.
“It's definitely going to prepare us for the MEAC Tournament and hopefully a Regional as well,” Beverlin commented.
This week, the Wildcats wrapped up their fall practice session, and the final scrimmage in the Maroon and Gold World Series with game seven on the final day of fall practices, Oct. 30 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
