About the Lady Wildcats
Coming off a win at home, the Lady Wildcats take on the first MEAC contest of the season, traveling to Chesapeake Bay for a pair of conference games. The EWC win snapped a three-game losing skid, giving B-CU the momentum heading into the most crucial games of the season.
Chastity René Taylor continues to be the Lady Wildcats' leader on the court, as the DeSoto, Texas native has both logged double figures and topped B-CU in scoring in six of seven games on the year. In her last outing, she hit 16 points and logged season highs of six rebounds and four steals.
Guards Shakeyia Colyer and Kendra Cooper have provided offensive support with 7.0 and 6.7 PPG, respectively. Colyer also leads the team in steals (1.3) and assists (2.1), while ranking second on the squad with 5.4 rebounds. Cooper, an upstart freshman, has hit nine points in two of the last three games and her output has boosted with increased playing time.
Taylor Houston has started all seven games at forward, topping the squad with 6.1 rebounds per game, while Kailyn Williams tops the team with 2.6 blocks per outing, ranking in a tie for first in the MEAC and also 28th in the NCAA.
Blair-Lewis Hitting the Road for the Lady Wildcats
Unable to travel to the two-game Hospitality Hill Challenge in Denton, Texas, Head Coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis will join the team in Norfolk for both games this week.
About the Spartans
At 2-5 on the season, the Spartans are working through a three-game losing streak after Thursday's 83-62 loss at home to Florida A&M. NSU has earned both of its wins in the confines of Echolls Hall, topping Radford and Wofford.
Redshirt junior guard Rae Corbo has emerged as a scoring leader for the Spartans, putting up 14.0 PPG, with 3.3 RPG and a team-high 1.3 steals per outing. However, her counterpart in the post, senior forward Rachel Gordon draws attention in multiple facets of the game. Gordon leads the nation with 15.4 rebounds per game, in addition to scoring 10.1 PPG on a team-high 48.5 percent shooting. Gordon also leads the team with 1.9 blocks per game.
Fellow forward Ebony Brown chips in 10.7 PPG with 3.0 RPG.
