NORFOLK, Va. - The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats added their eighth conference honors of the season this week, as officials from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced Anthony Stokes as MEAC Player of the Week on Monday (April 22) for his efforts, leading the team to a record of 4-1 in games last week.
His third conference accolades of the 2013 campaign, Stokes went 9-for-20 (.450) at the plate, including seven RBI and three runs scored last week. On the defensive end, the junior had 41 putouts and six assists in the week's five games. Stokes batted .667 (2-for-3) with one run and two RBI in the series-opening 4-2 win over North Carolina A&T, closing the series sweep with a three-RBI day in the 7-5 win.
This marks the fourth career honor for the Chesapeake, Va. native, who has been on a tear of late, batting .422 in the month of April, logging 20 RBI to assume the team-leading (30) role in the stat, aided by a .375 batting average in MEAC play.
With the North Carolina A&T series in the books, the Wildcats (26-19) now embark on an eight-game road swing, beginning Tuesday with a two-day midweek set at Florida Gulf Coast (22-14). The MEAC Baseball Championships begin in Norfolk, Va. on May 15, as the Wildcats look to capture their eighth consecutive conference crown.
