DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Bethune-Cookman took the doubles point, but Florida Gulf Coast dunked the Wildcats in singles play for a 5-2 victory Saturday at City Island Courts.
The Wildcats (12-11) got victories from the duos of Santiago Lobelo and Diego Garavito at No. 2 doubles and Juan Varon and Moritz Pronath at No. 3 to take the 1-0 lead.
But in singles play, only Leonardo Limo at No. 5 singles was able to register a win as the Eagles (10-8) took five of the six contests.
“We have had so many times where we have won the doubles point and then drop the singles,” said B-CU Head Coach Tim Pleasant. “But, it is a positive improvement from last year as we never got a doubles point and had to fight to get any singles wins. We are improving with every match. “
The Wildcats will host Florida Atlantic Sunday morning. Pleasant also announced that a match at No. 17 Florida has been added to the schedule Wednesday.
