DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman freshman men's golfer Ryan Fricker has been selected to participate as an individual in the upcoming NCAA Men's Golf Tournament beginning Thursday, May 16. He will head to the Tallahassee (Fla.) Regional at the Golden Eagle Golf & Country Club.
Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 16-18. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.
The finals will be conducted May 28-June 2, at The Capital City Club, Crabapple Course in Atlanta. Georgia Tech is the host institution for this year's championships.
Fricker, a native of Ivybridge, England, will travel to the Tallahassee (Fla.) Regional hosted by Florida State University. The event will take place at the Golden Eagle Golf & Country Club.
The older brother of fellow B-CU golfer Leon Fricker, Ryan currently leads the Wildcats in stroke average firing a 71.6, even-par score for the 2012-13 season. He is set to become the first B-CU male golfer to participate in the NCAA Tournament in the Loritz “Scooter” Clark era – and the first B-CU golfer for the NCAA field in more than 10 years.
On the campaign, Fricker picked up a pair of tournament titles at the Gary Freeman Invitational and the Don Benbow Invitational, respectively. In total, he has collected eight top 10 finishes in the 11 tournaments for which he has competed. Fricker owns four of the top five low round scores (67), sharing a fellow 67 round with Matthew McKnight, who fired that during the MEAC Showcase.
Joining Fricker as individuals in the Tallahassee (Fla.) Regional will be Sean Bosdosh (Maryland), J.T. Poston (Western Carolina), Maverick Antcliff (Augusta State), Richard Fountain (Davidson), Trey Rule (Mercer), Daniel Walker (Richmond), Edward Figueroa (Florida Gulf Coast), Alex Wennstam (Augusta State) and Hans Reimers (Mercer).
The teams participating in Tallahassee will be top-seeded Washington, followed in seeded order by Georgia Tech, host Florida State, North Florida, Oklahoma, Wake Forest, NC State, Oregon, Oregon State, Iowa, USF, San Diego and Loyola (Md.).
