NORFOLK, Va. – Delicia Pierre registered 20 kills in Bethune-Cookman's 3-0 (25-21,27-25,25-23) loss to  host Norfolk State in the Spartan Classic Friday night.

The sophomore also had eight kills and two blocks for the Lady Cats, now 1-6. This is her second career match with 20 or more kills.

B-CU saw a 17-12 first set lead and a 14-3 advantage in the second set fade as Norfolk State (3-6) rallied by 14 kills from Jessica Johnson.

The Lady Cats took a five-point opening set advantage after pulling away from a 9-9 tie. The Spartans used a 5-0 run sparked by two Adriana Ramos service aces to tie it. B-CU regained the lead twice, but the Spartans used a 6-2 to close the set.

A Phylecia Armstrong kill gave a B-CU an 11-2 second set lead and stretched the advantage to eleven later in the set. After Norfolk State worked back to a 22-22 tie, three  Pierre kills put the Lady Cats at set point twice, but the Spartans rallied for the 2-0 lead.

Pierre had eight kills in a tightly contested third set in which neither team led by more than two points.
