NORFOLK, Va. – Bethune-Cookman's Delicia Pierre was named to the Spartan Classic All-Tournament team Saturday after the Lady Cats (1-8) dropped 3-0 losses to defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champion UMES and Charlotte to conclude tournament play.
Pierre had 14 kills and 11 digs in the UMES match and matched her career-high of 21 against Charlotte. The 21 kills also tied Janeen Davis' record for kills in a three-set match.
Pierre also registered four services aces against UMES, including one that gave the Lady Cats a 16-13 lead. The Hawks tied it at 17 and again at 18 before using a 7-1 run to close the set.
B-CU had an early 6-2 lead in the second set.
UMES jumped out to an 10-3 lead in the second set. B-CU closed to 15-14 on a Rhea Simon kill but could come no closer.
Alexas Thomas had 25 assists and 10 digs for B-CU.
Charlotte got 13 kills from Amanda Videmsek to down the Lady Cats 25-15, 25-17, 28-26.
Against Charlotte, B-CU had three set points in the third set, but could not capitalize.
Thomas finished with a season-high 34 assists, while libero Normarie Rolon also had a season high with 16 digs. Destiny Hudson had seven kills.
