DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Florida Atlantic spoiled Bethune-Cookman's home opener Wednesday with a 3-0 (25-16,25-20,25-20) decision in historic Moore Gymnasium.
Delicia Pierre had nine kills and three blocks, while Phylecia Armstrong had five kills and five blocks for the Lady Cats, now 1-10.
Ivana Bulajic had five points for FAU (6-5), which defeated B-CU for the second time this season.
In the second set, B-CU cut a 19-14 deficit to 19-18, but the Owls closed the set with a 6-2 run.
B-CU took an 11-7 third set lead before FAU to take a 13-12 lead and would later pull away from a 16-16 tie.
Rhea Simon had six kills, six digs and two blocks for B-CU, followed by Destiny Hudson with five kills. Freshman setter Alexas Thomas finished with 20 assists and senior Jennifer Jimenez had 12 digs.
