DURHAM, N.C. – Delicia Pierre double-doubled with 11 kills and 10 digs, and
Hazel Ortiz- Rosado also double-doubled (20 assists, 10 digs) as Bethune-Cookman downed North Carolina Central 3-0 (25-20,25-22,26-24) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match Friday night.
Combined with Florida A&M's 3-1 victory over North Carolina A&T, the victory assured the Lady Cats (9-18,7-1 MEAC) the second seed from the Southern Division at the MEAC tournament November 21-23 in Baltimore.
North Carolina Central (2-23,2-5) had B-CU 24-20 in the third set, but a Pierre kill and a five-point
Lauren Turner service run gave the Lady Wildcats the victory. B-CU trailed by as many as seven points early in the set.
In addition to her fifth double-double of the season, Pierre also had five blocks.
Ortiz-Rosado recorded her seventh double-double of the year, and also posted three service aces to increase her conference-leading total to 44. The junior is also sixth in the nation in that category.
Rakaya Neely and Turner each had six kills for B-CU, and posted five and four blocks, respectively.
Normarie Rolon led the Lady Cats on defense with 14 digs.
Now winners of three straight, the Lady Cats face North Carolina A&T Sunday at 1p.m.
