TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - With over 1,200 middle school students on hand for “Field Trip Day”, the Florida State Seminoles showed why they're likely to be in top 25 in the near future, running away with a 103-34 victory over the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats on Tuesday at the Donald L. Tucker Center.
The Lady Wildcats went blow-for-blow with the Seminoles early on, forcing two ties and taking the lead twice. FSU broke a 12-12 tie with 9:09 on the clock in the first half on Brittany Brown's jumper, and never looked back, taking advantage of their stronger bench to pull away by the half 38-23.
Although the Lady Wildcats matched up with the Seminoles well to open the second half, the offense faltered and stalled out for eight minutes. Meanwhile, FSU ramped up the intensity and tempo of the contest, outscoring B-CU 65-11 in the second half.
Rebounds and fouls played a significant role in the outcome of Tuesday's non-conference tilt, as FSU won the rebounding battle by a 64-19 margin, while the Lady Wildcats were whistled for 30 fouls, leading to a 30-for-36 FSU performance at the line.
The reigning MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, redshirt senior guard Terrenisha Hollis led the Lady Wildcats in scoring and on the boards for the second straight game, putting up 13 points with five (5) rebounds. Hollis also grabbed four (4) steals.
Sophomore center Kailyn Williams tallied six blocks against the Seminoles, eclipsing the century mark for her career, and placing her four blocks away from tying Sarah Bolden for second on the program's career blocks list.
For the Seminoles, center Adut Bulgak led five FSU scorers in double figures with 18 points, while also collecting 13 rebounds.
The Lady Wildcats head directly to Jacksonville to rest up and prepare for Thursday's meeting with the Jacksonville Dolphins.
