WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Clemmye Owens scored a game-high 22 points in Bethune-Cookman's 73-50 loss to Monmouth in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic Friday night.
Owens, who went 8-12 from the field, had 17 second-half points for the Wildcats, now 1-2 on the season.
Quintin Brewer added 12 points and Tony Kynard seven for Bethune-Cookman, who committed 22 turnovers. Denzel Dulin had a team-high six rebounds in his first appearance of the season.
Deon Jones scored 14 points, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, pulled down six rebounds for Monmouth (1-1), who shot 54.3 percent from the field got the free throw line 30 times, 24 more than the Wildcats.
Leading 9-8 midway through the first half, Monmouth took control of the game with a 10-0 run to seize momentum for good, eventually building its lead as high as 24 in the second half.
Bethune-Cookman will face Towson Saturday at 5 p.m.
