Trapp, @BCUhoops Stop CCSU 65-60

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Mikel Trapp's three-pointer with 1:57 remaining put Bethune-Cookman ahead, then the redshirt senior sank four free throws in the final 15 seconds as the Wildcats downed Central Connecticut State 65-60 Sunday to close out the CBE Hall of Fame Classic.

Trapp finished with 18 points, including three from behind the arc, as the Wildcats (2-3) snapped a three-game losing streak.

Central Connecticut (0-5) led 35-27 at halftime, but Clemmye Owens (17 points)  scored the Wildcats' opening eight points of the second half to key Bethune-Cookman's second half start.

Quentin Brewer and Travis Elliott helped the Wildcats take ties at 41-41 with 14:02 left  and 43-43  with 11:39 to play, but the Red Devils regained the lead and built it up to 58-52 on Matt Mobley's lay-up with 3:38 remaining.

It would be the final Central Connecticut State field goal of the game.

After Trapp's three-pointer made it 59-58, Tony Kynard sank two free throws to put the Wildcats ahead 61-58.

Mobley hit free throws with 31 and 18 seconds remaining to cut it to one point, but Trapp sank his free throws and Delino Dear grabbed a key rebound to preserve the win.

Owens was 7-13 from the field, and also had three steals.

Brewer doubled-doubled with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Kynard  finished with eight points and Dear seven points and four rebounds.

Mobley led the Blue Devils with 22, while Faronte Drakeford scored 14 of his 20 in the first half.

Bethune-Cookman hosts Tennessee-Martin Tuesday night at Moore Gymnasium.
