Lady Wildcats Fall to Hot-Shooting FGCU, 91-46

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Battling a strong-shooting night from Florida Gulf Coast, the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats fell to the Eagles on Wednesday night, 91-46, in the final non-conference tilt at Richard V. Moore Gymnasium before the New Year.

Using a pair of threes and steady field goal shooting in the opening minutes of the first half, FGCU (8-2) jumped out to a 20-5 advantage through the first eight minutes. However, JaVannah Jackson, Kendra Cooper and Kailyn Williams teamed up to help the Lady Wildcats battle back, trimming the FGCU advantage to just eight with 10:29 to go.  That is the closest B-CU would get, as FGCU closed the half on an 8-3 run for a 41-25 halftime lead.

Coming out of the break, the Eagles outscored the Lady Wildcats 18-0 through the first minutes before Lyndsey Edwards broke up the run with a pair of free throws at 13:43. The Eagles used six threes in the second period to build up their lead en route to a 91-46 victory over the Lady Wildcats.

The Eagles capitalized on B-CU miscues to build up the margin, registering 14 steals and scoring 29 points off Lady Wildcat turnovers. FGCU proved to be a tough-shooting opponent, logging a 54 percent shooting performance from the floor, and 45 percent from the perimeter.

Cooper led 10 Lady Wildcats putting points on the board with eight, while freshmen Jackson and Emily Williams put up seven apiece. E. Williams and Arreonté Lee each topped B-CU with five rebounds each.

The Lady Wildcats (3-8) have a quick turnaround as 2014 winds down, heading to DeLand and Stetson's Edmunds Center for the Hatter Classic, where they will meet Texas State on Friday (Dec. 19) at 3 p.m., and Campbell on Saturday (Dec. 20) at 3 p.m.
