CHARLESTON, S.C. – Brandon Stewart scored a career-high 22 points in Bethune-Cookman's 51-47 loss at The Citadel Tuesday.
The senior from Miami was six of 15 from the field and 10-14 from the line, but the Wildcats (3-10) remained winless in seven road games this season.
Stewart gave Bethune-Cookman a 26-25 lead on a three-point play with 17:22 remaining. After a Citadel basket, Denzel Dulin tied it at 27-27 on a free throw with 14:02 left, but the Bulldogs (5-7) held the Wildcats to four free throws over the next six minutes to build a 39-31 lead on an Ashton Moore three-pointer with 8:06 left.
The Wildcats never got closer than four points down the stretch.
Moore led The Citadel with 20 points, 13 in the second half. P.J. Horgan added 13 points and nine rebounds.
Bethune-Cookman jumped out to a 13-3 lead on Ricky Johnson's lay-up with 13:07 remaining in the first half and maintained the lead until two Horgan free throws with 20 seconds remaining gave The Citadel a 23-22 halftime lead.
Johnson finished with 10 points and seven rebounds for the Wildcats, while Dulin posted five points and six boards. Quintin Brewer led the Wildcats with eight rebounds.
Bethune-Cookman travels to Ball State Saturday afternoon.
