DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Bethune-Cookman baseball team tabbed its eighth weekly Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) honor of the season on Monday (March 31), as officials from the conference office announced that Zach Olszewski has again earned MEAC Rookie of the Week accolades.
His second honor in as many weeks, Olszewski (C, 6-0, Fr., Bay City, Mich.) batted .300 in games against Central Florida and Savannah State last week, starting three games at catcher and one as designated hitter for the Wildcats. He scored three runs, recording three walks to improve B-CU scoring opportunities. Defensively, Olszewski recorded 15 putouts and assisted on three more.
Of the 18 weekly honors for the MEAC this season, a Bethune-Cookman player has been honored eight times.
The Wildcats have a big week ahead, traveling to FIU on Tuesday (April 1), Miami on Wednesday (April 2) and then returning for the weekend to conclude the 2014 home slate with a three-game MEAC Southern showdown versus Florida A&M at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
In addition, two major events are scheduled for this weekend's FAMU series. B-CU's “Senior Day” event to honor the Wildcats' nine seniors will be held on Saturday (April 5) prior to the first game of the doubleheader. On Sunday, the Wildcats and Rattlers will face off before a national audience in an ESPNU/ESPN3.com televised game, beginning at 1 p.m.
