Volleyball Wraps-Up D.C. Swing with AU Setback

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Bethune-Cookman volleyball wrapped up its three-game road swing and second-straight game falling 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-14) to The American University Eagles on Friday, Oct. 16 at Bender Arena in the Nation's Capital.

After a slow start for the 'Cats, AU cruised to a 25-11 victory in the first set.

The B-CU defense held its own in the first game, where the Wildcats picked up 19 digs compared to the Eagles 12.

With Normarie Rolon back to serve to open the second, B-CU pushed a 5-0 run early.

After B-CU pulled ahead 19-13, the Eagles used a 10-0 to take the lead at 23-19, before earning the 25-22 second set victory and 2-0 match lead heading into the break.

During the second set, senior Rhea Simon knocked in a team-best five kills, while Rolon added six digs to her total.

Despite an early tie at 2-2, it was all American in the third set, as the Eagles pulled ahead 17-6, forcing a B-CU timeout.

During her first appearance in a B-CU uniform, Maya Davis held off the match point with a kill at 24-14, before a B-CU error gave the Eagles a 25-14 third set victory.

Simon's six kills lead the Wildcats while Phylecia Armstrong, Delicia Pierre and Rakaya Neely each added five kills.

During Davis' debut, the redshirt sophomore finished with three kills on four attempts and no errors, all coming during the third set.

Hazel Ortiz Rosado paced the B-CU offense with 25 assists, while adding a service ace during the setback.

Defensivly, Rolon picked up a team-best 14 digs, while Ajsha Davie collected nine.

B-CU returns to action on Friday, Oct. 23 as the Wildcats kick off Senior Weekend, hosting Savannah State in their “Dig Pink” match at 7 p.m., in Moore Gym.
