DOVER, Del. – Larry Brihm rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns and Bethune-Cookman rolled up 353 yards on the ground to defeat Delaware State 49-21 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game Saturday at Alumni Field.
After the Hornets (0-8, 0-5 MEAC) opened the scoring when Logan Westcott returned a field goal blocked by Gabriel Sherrod 82 yards midway through the first quarter, the Wildcats (7-2, 5-1 MEAC) scored on five consecutive offensive possessions to take control.
Brihm had 19 carries and touchdown runs of 1 and 4 yards , and Michael D. Jones had 98 yards on 12 carries and a 2-yard touchdown for the Wildcats.
Quentin Williams hit 7 of 9 passes for 103 yards with touchdowns of 7 yards to Frank Brown and 34 yards to Ja-Quan Lumas that made it 35-7 early in the third quarter.
Delaware State closed to 35-21 on Brycen Allenye's 14-yard pass from Gilbert Rivera at the start of the fourth quarter, but B-CU answered with Brihm's 4-yarder with 6:54 to play. Carey White tacked on a 15-yard run with 17 seconds left.
Anthony Jordan (61 yards rushing, four catches for 23 yards) also scored for the Wildcats, who host Morgan State next Saturday at Municipal Stadium.
