ORLANDO – Alvaro Barrera's three-set victory at No. 4 singles left Bethune-Cookman to a 4-3 victory over Bucknell Tuesday.
The Wildcats (6-7) took a 1-0 lead after the doubles point and led 3-1 after singles victories from Greg Almeida and Kevin Deligny before Bucknell (4-4) rallied to tie.
Barrera downed Bucknell's Maxwell Kane 6-4,3-6,6-4 to give the Wildcats the victory in a length three and half hour match.
“I told Alvaro when he was down 5-3 in the 2nd set that there was nobody more that I wanted on that court at that time than him,” said B-CU Head Coach Tim Pleasant.”I knew he was going to pull it out and make it a physical battle in which there is nobody more fit than Alvaro Barrera. I had total confidence.”
B-CU hosts Appalachian State and Jackson State Wednesday.
