FLORENCE, S.C – Bethune-Cookman swept North Carolina Central 4-3 and North Carolina A&T 7-0 to begin Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play Sunday.
The Wildcats (9-8 overall, 2-0 MEAC) have now three straight and five of their last six with Sunday's two victories giving them two conference victories in league play since the conference went to divisional play.
Alvaro Barrera won both his singles matches, and the Wildcats picked up a huge doubles point in the North Carolina Central match that gave them the early advantage.
“It is going to come down to the doubles point as everyone on the men's side is beating each other 4-3,” said B-CU Head Coach Tim Pleasant. “The team that has won the doubles point has won the match 4-3.”
Diego Garavito helped clinched the doubles points and delivered the deciding fourth point for the Wildcats in the North Carolina Central match.
Bethune-Cookman faces Norfolk State Monday.
