JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman volleyball dropped two-straight during opening day of the 2015 Courtyard Mayo Classic in Jacksonville, Florida as the Wildcats fell 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-23) to the host North Florida and 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-17) during a rematch with Florida Atlantic on Friday (Sept. 11).
Game One
After dropping identical 25-19 sets during the first two against UNF, the Wildcats battled back in the third set, leading 20-13, before B-CU gave up a 12-3 run allowing the Ospreys to earn the 3-0 victory.
Offensively, Delicia Pierre led the way with 17 kills, as Rhea Simon added eight on 24 attempts and no errors (.333).
Hazel Ortiz Rosado dished a game-best 31 assists with Normarie Rolon dug a team-best 11 digs and Pierre led with three block assists.
Game Two
During a season rematch with the Owls, B-CU struggled to pull ahead as they dropped the 3-0 match that saw 11 ties and six lead changes.
For the first time during the 2015 season someone other than Pierre led the Wildcats offensively. Phylecia Armstrong led B-CU with a season-high nine kills on 20 attempts with no errors (.450), while Pierre trailed with six.
Ortiz Rosado earned her sixth assist/dig double-double of the season as she dished 18 assists and picked up 10 digs while Alexus Bennett headed B-CU's defense with 11 digs.
During game two the Wildcats won the block battle, earning 9.0 as a team compared to the Owls 6. Armtstrong finished with three block assists and one solo.
