@BCUhoops Game Day: Norfolk State

NORFOLK, Va. – Bethune-Cookman concludes both its seven-game road trip and first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference road swing Monday night at 8 p.m. against Norfolk State.

The Wildcats (4-12, overall, 1-1 MEAC) will look to snap an eight-game losing streak and salvage a split on the trip after falling 75-70 at Hampton. Norfolk State (6-11,2-0) is coming off a 77-56 decision over Florida A&M.

B-CU UPDATE: Saturday's loss at Hampton was the Wildcats third by five points or less in the last five games. It also was the second time B-CU has trailed by double figures and led by double figures in the same game. The Wildcats have been outrebounded in six of the last seven games.

THE RICKY REPORT:  After a season-high 20 point outburst at Hampton, Senior Ricky Johnson is now at 982 career points, 18 away from becoming the program's 29th 1,000 point scorer.

--POSSIBLY IRONIC THING #1: The last B-CU player to reach 1,000 was Adrian Coleman, who accomplished that in Norfolk against Norfolk State at the 2013MEAC tournament.

--POSSIBLY IRONIC THING #2: B-CU won that game in overtime, and it's the last time the Wildcats beat the Spartans.

BACK TO RICKY: Johnson has reached double figures the past five games. He's also two 3-pointers away from joining the all-time top ten list in that category.

BLOCK PARTY: At the halfway point of the season, LaRon Smith has 45 blocks, good enough for the fourth-best single-season total in program history. The school record is 86 set by Greg Ross in 1984.

SCOUTING NSU: The Spartans lead the league in 3-point field goal percentage (37.3) and free throw percentage (77.0) while ranking second in scoring defense (73.2), field goal percentage defense (43.7), 3-pointers per game (7.1), opponent rebounding (34.5) and blocks (4.4). Preseason POTY Jeff Short is fourth in the league with a scoring average of 16.5 ppg.
