DAYTONA BEACH, Florida – Bethune-Cookman volleyball returns to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) action as the Wildcats travel to Savannah State (Oct. 21) and South Carolina State (Oct. 23), finishing league road games. 
 
BCU
The 5-18 Wildcats have three conference sweeps over N.C. Central, South Carolina State and Savannah State with two non-conference victories over Morgan State and Tulane.
 
This week's MEAC Rookie of the Week, Alana Handy, currently leads the Wildcat offense with 2.91 per set, while posting six kill/dig double-doubles this season. Phylecia Armstrong set a program record with a .750 hitting percentage against Tulane, recording 15 kills with zero errors on 20 attempts giving her the second-best percentage in the nation. Armstrong ranks third on the team with 1.98 kills per set and leads the team with 73 total blocks.
 
On the defensive end, Normaire Rolon Soto has collected a team-best 248 digs (3.22 dps), while J'nai Higgins and Phalen Clark have split the setting responsibility with 385 (5.35 aps) and 318 (5.68 aps) assists respectively.
 
SSU
The 1-20 Tigers are paced by Caitlynn Masoe 2.09 kills per set.
 
Defensively, Alexis Washington picks up 3.63 digs per set as Charlinda Colbert as a total of 26 blocks on the season.
 
SCSU
The 0-20 Bears are led by Brianna Dafney 2.94 kills per set.
 
On the defensive end, Jasmin Hubbard collects 2.31 digs per set but Dafney has earned 33 total blocks.

  • Alana Handy was named MEAC Rookie of the week (Oct. 17)
  • Normarie Rolon Soto moved into first place in BCU history on Tuesday, Oct. 4 when her 16 digs passed Jennifer Jimenez' Bethune-Cookman record of 1,186.
  • J'nai Higgins was named to the Bulldog Invitational All-Tournament Team (Sept. 17-18).
  • Alondra Bautista earned MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honors (Sept. 5).
  • Phylecia Armstrong broke the BCU record for hitting percentage in a match after hitting .750 (15-0-20).
  • Armstrong earned All-Tournament honors at both the FAU Invitational (Aug. 26-27) and the Allstate Sugar Bowl Tournament (Sept. 2-3).
  • Alana Handy was named to the FAU All-Tournament team (Aug. 26-27).
  • Bethune-Cookman was selected as preseason favorites in the MEAC southern division.
