Alana Handy was named the 2016 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Co-Rookie of the Year, as BCU earned three All-MEAC honorees the league announced Wednesday, Nov. 16.
In addition to being named Rookie of the Year, Handy was also named to the All-MEAC Second Team and All-Rookie Team, while
Phylecia Armstrong earned First Team honors and Rayaka Neely was named to the All-MEAC Second Team.
A three-time MEAC Rookie of the Week honoree, Handy recorded 10 double-doubles in kills and digs. Also, she registered a season-high 27 kills against Florida A&M and 19 digs against McNeese State.
After leading the BCU offense the entire season, the Burlington, Wash., native ranks fifth in the league in kills per set (3.34) and seventh in points per set (3.52).

Phylecia Armstrong was named to the All-MEAC First Team after finishing the season second in the league in hitting percentage (.335) and second in blocks pet set with .99. The Tacariqua, Trinidad & Tobago, native set a program record with a .750 hitting percentage against Tulane, recording 15 kills with zero errors on 20 attempts giving her the second-best percentage in the nation.
Junior
Rakaya Neely earned Second Team honors after finishing her third year at BCU ranked third in the MEAC in hitting percentage (.319) and four on the team in kills per set with 2.44.
The Wildcats open the 2016 MEAC Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m., during a season rematch with Morgan State in Princess Anne, Maryland.
