Ulmer Manzie added 10 points, and Jeffrey Altidort contributed eight assists and eight steals for the Wildcats, who are playing their first four home games away from campus while Moore Gym is undergoing renovations after Hurricane Matthew.
Quinton Forrest had a steal and then converted a three-point play to cap a 10-3 run to open the game. Baker had a steal and a breakaway layup and then, after
Houston Smith's steal on the other end, hit a 3-pointer to cap a 14-2 run that made it 40-21 with 33 seconds left in the half.
Trinity made just 4 of 14 from 3-point range and committed 33 turnovers which led to 42 Bethune-Cookman points.
The Wildcats used a 15-7 edge on the offensive glass to outscore Trinity 20-5 on second-chance points.
Lorson Baptiste led Trinity with 12 points.
Bethune-Cookman embarks a four-game road trip as part of the San Diego Classic. The Wildcats will face New Mexico State on Sunday, then San Diego on Tuesday, then Samford and Nichols State next Friday and Saturday.
HEAD COACH GRAVELLE CRAIG
"We didn't play with the energy we did Wednesday night against Kennesaw State with the small crowd. You have to step between the lines if there's one person or 15,000 ready to compete. Times we got lackadaisical and that's on me."
"Jeffrey's been doing a solid job holding the point making good decisions and getting people. I keep pushing him to get better."
"We played a lot of zone tonight to get ready for the upcoming trip. It was good for Ulmer and
Brandon Suggs to get game experience."
NOTES: Altidort's eight steals ties him with Alexander Starling and Alstair Henry for the third-best single-game steals total in program history … Tabb has scored the first basket in all three games … Walk-ons Jamaal Gaines and
Danny Harris saw their first action of the season … Baker and
Brandon Suggs led the Cats in rebounds with six … This was the first time B-CU had two players score 20 or more since
Jordan Potts and
LaRon Smith scored 21 and 20 in an overtime win at North Carolina A&T.
