Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

@BCUWBB Tops Flagler for Second Win

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Kendra Cooper's back in a scoring rhythm, and Bethune-Cookman's back in the win column.

The senior came one garbage-time jumper short of her second straight 20-point night as the Lady Wildcats snapped a frustrating five-game losing streak with a 76-53 win over Flagler Thursday in the ICI Center.

Cooper led four Lady Wildcats (2-5) in double figures as they pulled away from a 36-32 halftime lead.

The senior went through a mini-slump during the team's five-game road trip, but she posted a 20-point outing against Southeastern Louisiana and this 18-pointer on 7-18 shooting.

"It's a matter of staying confident," Cooper said. "And waiting for the shot to come to me rather than force it."

Fellow senior Kailyn Williams scored 10 of her 15 points in the third quarter as the Lady Wildcats outscored Flagler (2-4) 27-6 in the period to pull away from a 36-32 halftime lead. Williams also finished with six blocked shots.

"Our success is in our veterans," said B-CU Head Coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis.  "When they play well, we do well."

Flagler came out with unconscious shooting, making six three-pointers in the opening 10 minutes, including a half-court buzzer beater that gave the visitors a 22-20 lead. B-CU managed its small halftime lead, then limited Flagler to 5-27 shooting from the field in the final 20 minutes.

That aspect of the game, especially after losing games in the fourth quarter during the streak, pleased Blair-Lewis.

"In the second half, we played much better a team," Blair-Lewis said . "These games where we've been in them and dropped them like we did have been tough on us. It was good to get that monkey off our back."

Kanesha Battle and Angel Golden each contributed 10 points. Armani Walker posted eight points and six rebounds while Ashanti Hunt had eight points and five rebounds.

The Lady Wildcats play at UCF Sunday afternoon.

NOTES: This was Williams' third six block game of the season and her fourth straight in double-figure scoring…The team's 76 points were a season high.
