DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - During a record breaking night inside Moore Gymnasium, Bethune-Cookman women's basketball forced a three-way tie for first place in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) after taking down the North Carolina A&T Aggie, 65-41, during a Monday evening rematch.
Redshirt junior Kailyn Williams recorded her first career triple-double, after this week's MEAC Player of the week collected 13 points, 13 rebounds and 12 blocks.
The 6-4 center's 12 blocks was good enough for most in the NCAA during a single game this season, while her triple-double placed her in an elite group of 17 NCAA DI women's basketball student-athletes who have accomplished this feat.
It was a one-sided contest from the beginning as the Wildcats held N.C. A&T to only eight first quarter points.
Again in the second, B-CU outscored the Aggies 22-to-15 taking a 35-23 advantage into the intermission.
During the third quarter the Wildcat's defense lit up, as B-CU held N.C. A&T to only eight points scoring 17 of their own.
The WIldcat's largest lead came at the 7:57 mark in the fourth when B-CU took a vengeful 26-point advantage.
Bethune-Cookman's 65-41 victory forced a three-way tie for first in the league after Hampton suffered a setback to Delaware State.
In additon to Williams, Taylor Houston (Raleigh, N.C.) scored a team-best 14 points while Emily Williams (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) added 12 and Kendra Cooper (Spring, Texas) nine.
On the defensive end, rookie Ashanti Hunt (Washington, D.C.) pulled down 11 rebounds and three steals while senior Jasmine Knowles (Romulus, Mich.) scored nine points and collected four assists in final game in Moore Gym.
Kala Green was the only Aggie to finish in double-figures with 10 points, while Christina Carter added seven.
The Wildcats regular-season finale will take place on Thursday, March 3 as B-CU travels to South Carolina State to take on the Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m., in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
A Thursday night B-CU victory will secure a share of the 2016 regular-season title.
