@BCUDiamondCats Ink Two for 2017 Incoming Class

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman Baseball officially announced the signing of two junior college student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Friday, April 29. The announcement came from B-CU fifth-year head coach Jason Beverlin.

Adonis Lao and Jordan Stacy have each committed to playing for the Wildcats during the 2016-17 campaign.

Adonis Lao is a 6-foot, 165-pound sophomore from Southeastern Community College in West Burlington, Iowa. The Elmhurst, New York native batted .328 this past season, adding a .416 slugging percentage. Lao is both an outfielder and left-handed pitcher, appearing in 15 games on the mound out of the bullpen. He collected a team-leading seven saves in 13.1 innings of work, striking out 18 batters against just eight walks.

Lao will serve primarily as a pitcher for the Wildcats in 2017.

“Adonis [Lao] brings versatility to our roster,” commented Beverlin. “We are excited about his ability to help us off the mound, but he also plays the outfield. He has a very good arm, and has a huge upside as a pitcher.

“The addition of Adonis gives us depth in both outfield and pitching. His stuff as a pitcher is plus, and he has potential to get a lot of outs for us.”

The second signee for Bethune-Cookman is Jordan Stacy, a 6-foot-1, 200-pounder from Jacksonville, Florida. The Episcopal High alum currently is a sophomore at FSC Jacksonville, under the direction of head coach Brad Frick – a former B-CU Wildcats standout in his own right.

Stacy is a catcher/utility player for FSCJ, finishing the year with a .310 batting average. He was on base at a .379 clip, as well as a .579 slugging percentage.

“We are excited to add Jordan [Stacy] to our 2016 recruiting class,” added Beverlin. “Jordan will come in and make an immediate impact, in addition to being a very good hitter. He can play some different positions as well. This will help a great deal as our 2017 team gets structured further.”

Stacy added eight home runs in 2016, while pounding 10 doubles from the third base, catcher and outfield positions. He should serve as a utility player and hitter for the Cats in 2017.

Bethune-Cookman gets back to the field Saturday, April 30, traveling to North Carolina A&T for a three-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series in Greensboro, North Carolina. The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon, followed by a single game on Sunday.
