NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – For the third-straight match, rookie Alana Handy led Bethune-Cookman volleyball as the Wildcats fell to Sam Houston State, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-22) during day one (Sept. 2) of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Tournament in New Orleans.
Handy recorded her first career double-double finishing the match with a team-best 11 kills and game-high 12 digs. The rookie also finished with three service aces and one block.
Jai Chapman and Phylecia Armstrong trailed Handy on the offensive end with seven and five kills respectively.
Pacing the B-CU offense, Phalen Clark finished the match with a team-best 15 assists while Normarie Rolon Soto added nine digs and Armstrong collected three blocks.
Leading Sam Houston State, Brooke White finished with 15 kills and 15 digs while Jaclyn Ward and Michelle Griffith split the assists with 19 and 14 each.
Bethune-Cookman returns to the court Sept. 3 as the Wildcat's take on the tournament host, Tulane, at 1:30 p.m.
