Women's Basketball

@BCUWBB Game Day: Maryland Eastern Shore

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – After going 5-0 in their homes away from home, the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats return to Moore Gymnasium Saturday to face Maryland Eastern Shore in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game at 2 p.m.

The Lady Wildcats (9-8 overall, 5-0 MEAC) won all four games at Embry-Riddle and their one game at Daytona State while Moore Gym was being renovated after suffering floor damage during Hurricane Matthew. Last year, the Lady Wildcats were a perfect 8-0 at home in conference play and 10-3 overall. The conference home winning streak is now 11.

Bethune-Cookman is also riding a five-game winning streak as it continues its best-ever start in MEAC play.

THE LATEST: The Lady Wildcats have won their last three conference games – two on the road – by an average of 24.3 points per game. They are giving up a conference best 56.7 points per game – only 41.2 points a night in league play. Three other teams – Hampton, Norfolk State and Howard – are unbeaten in league play. We'll be keeping an eye on the Hampton-Norfolk State game.
In Monday's 64-41 win at Florida A&M, the Lady Wildcats held the Rattlers to one point in the second quarter. There have been seven scoreless quarters in NCAA Division I season.

BLOCK PARTY: Senior Kailyn Williams remains the NCAA Division I active career blocked shots leader with 397, 11 ahead of Chattanooga's Jasmine Joyner, who does have the season lead 72-65 over Williams.
Williams is also closing on a pair of Lady Wildcat milestones – she needs 23 points to reach the 1,000 point mark recently obtained by Kendra Cooper. Williams is also within striking distance of 1,000 rebounds, needing 150.

SPEAKING OF COOPER: The senior needs 23 points to pass Carmen Sanders' 1,188 points for fifth on the all-time scoring list.

CAT NOTES: Ashanti Hunt is averaging a team-best 11.6 points in league play.

ABOUT MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE: The Hawks (7-7,1-2) have dropped league losses to North Carolina Central and Howard their last two outings. They are scoring 65.3 points and surrendering 65.9 points per game. Ciani Byrom leads four players averaging double figures with an average of 14.6 points per game.
