DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman hosts two key Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division matches this weekend when the Wildcats meet North Carolina A&T Friday night at 7 p.m. and North Carolina Central Sunday at noon.
The Wildcats (6-8 overall, 3-0 MEAC) are tied with the Aggies (11-9,3-0) for the division lead while the Eagles (2-13,2-1) are one match behind as the conference approaches the half way point of league play.
A sweep would mark the second time in three seasons Bethune-Cookman "made the turn" at 5-0 in league play. Two wins would also put the Wildcats at .500 after 16 matches for the first time since 2004.
B-CU UPDATE: The Wildcats enter Friday's match winners of their last two and four of their last five … Tuesday's win over North Florida was their third non-conference triumph of the year … B-CU leads the MEAC in team assists, blocks and digs …
Rakaya Neely leads the MEAC in hitting percentage (.333) and is second in blocks (1.09) … Freshman
Faith Landreneaux in both hitting percentage (.294) and blocks (.95) … Setter
Phalen Clark leads the league in assists (10.35) … B-CU is a combined 7-1 vs. North Carolina A&T and NCCU in the
Brittany Williams era … The Wildcats are also 11-1 at home against the MEAC under Williams.
NORTH CAROLINA A&T UPDATE: The Aggies have won five straight … We have to say October 3 was a good day for freshman setter Edie Brewer, who got a triple double (25 assists, 13 kills and 11 digs in a win over Gardner-Webb… Alyssa Pitt and Samara Brown each have had 151 kills this season.
NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL UPDATE: The Eagles broke into the win column last weekend with a sweep of South Carolina State and Savannah State … Da'Nesha Miller leads the team with 112 kills while Whitney White has 99.
