The Game
Bethune-Cookman and South Carolina State meet for the 57th time on the gridiron when they compete in a key MEAC matchup on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Municipal Stadium in Daytona Beach, Florida. For Terry Sims, he is 1-1 all-time against the Bulldogs as a collegiate head coach.

Story Lines
• This weekend marks the third meeting for Head Coach Terry Sims against South Carolina State as a collegiate head coach.
• Bethune-Cookman is looking to even its overall record at 3-3 on the weekend, with two losses coming to Football Bowl Series opponents Miami (Fla.) and Florida Atlantic.
• Senior defensive back Diquan Richardson is tied for 38th nationally in the FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) with 45 total tackles through five games on the year.
• The last time these two teams met, it was a post-Thanksgiving contest in Orangeburg, South Carolina in a game rescheduled due to Hurricane Matthew.
• The Maroon and Gold are tied for fifth nationally in pass defense, and 10th nationally in pass efficiency defense.
• Bethune-Cookman is seeking its third consecutive home victory dating back to last season.
• Four different players for the Cats have collected interceptions on the year.

Series Notes
• South Carolina State leads the all-time series against Bethune-Cookman by a 32-23-1 count.
• Bethune-Cookman won the first meeting between the teams back in 1956.
• The Wildcats' longest winning streak in the series is six games from 1998-2003.
• From 2002-2014, the two teams met a total of seven (7) times with at least one team ranked in the FCS
(Football Bowl Subdivision) polls.

The Coach
Head Coach Terry Sims is now in his third year at the helm of the Bethune-Cookman Football program. The Knoxville alum holds a record of 15-11 overall with the Maroon and Gold, and he holds a record of 1-1 as a collegiate head coach against South Carolina State.

The Weather
Projected temperatures on game day: Daytona Beach – 84/77. Orangeburg, S.C. – 83/61.

#HighFive
1. Head Coach Terry Sims is looking for his second victory as an opposing head coach against South Carolina State, as well as his second consecutive at home against the Bulldogs.
2. Reserve running backs Jamaruz Thompkins and Que'shaun Byrd have combined for a pair of rushing scores in the Wildcats' last two games,
3. BCU is seeking its third consecutive win at home against the Bulldogs of South Carolina State
4. Four different players for the Wildcats have registered interceptions on the year for the defensive unit.
5. A total of five receivers have registered at least double-digit receptions across the campaign, led by Keavon Mitchell (18).

A Win Over South Carolina State Would…
• Give Bethune-Cookman its 24th win all-time against the Bulldogs.
• Be the 489th win all-time in school history.
• Allow BCU an even 3-3 record on the campaign.
• Extend the Cats' winning streak at home against S.C. State at three games.

Play Some Hendrix...
• Junior linebacker Marquis Hendrix stepped up against Florida Atlantic, leading the Wildcats with a team-high
10 tackles. The transfer from Coffeyville Community College collected seven solo stops in his first significant playing time on the year.
• He is no stranger to the Bethune-Cookman program, as his father Jack Hendrix played at BCU from 1990-91.

Deuces Wild...
• Senior safety Diquan Richardson is tied for 29th nationally in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) for passes intercepted. The Allen, South Carolina native is averaging 0.7 interceptions per game with a pair in his first four contests.

What's the Word?
• Each team throughout the 2017-18 BCU athletic year will have a word that represents the program.
• The word for BCU Football is "Resurge". The meaning comes from the team and Head Coach Terry Sims looking for a resurgence in 2017. The team endured an uncharacteristic 4-6 season last year, marking the first losing campaign at Bethune-Cookman since 2009.

Against the Rankings...
• The loss to No. 18 Miami in the season opener for both teams in Miami Gardens, Florida marked the fourth consecutive loss for the Wildcats against a ranked opponent. However, two of those teams in the current stretch were the 18th-ranked Hurricanes, in addition to No. 8 (FBS) Florida State – eventually winning the national championship in 2013 with Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston.

30 Sacks, 30 Turnovers...
• The goal at the start of the season is for the Wildcats defense to make 30 sacks and force 30 turnovers. That would be a significant production hike from the two previous years of the current coaching regime that resulted in 13/17 in 2016 and 18/19 in 2015.
• North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central were the only teams in the MEAC to achieve the 30/30 mark last year.
