@BCUvolleyball Celebrates Senior Day With 3-0 Romp Over SCSU

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman dispatched South Carolina State 3-0 (25-13,25-13,25-8) on Sunday in Historic Moore Gym, honoring its seniors and setting the stage for a climatic end to the regular season.

Seniors Alondra Bautista had 15 kills, Jai Chapman 11 and Rakaya Neely 10, and libero Rechez Lindsay set the program's record for digs in a three-set match with 23 digs as the Wildcats (10-11 overall, 7-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern) remained unbeaten in league play with a critical match at Florida A&M next Sunday.

Head Coach Brittany Williams played her six seniors all but exclusively in the Senior Day match. Setter Phalen Clark had 40 assists and Jessica Emile six kills.

Bautista, who hit .538, also had 11 digs for a double-double. Higgins also had 11 kills. Neely and Clark each posted five blocks.

The Wildcats finished with a season-high .388 hitting after posting a .579 mark in the third set. Bethune-Cookman trailed just twice in the match.

Briana Dafney led South Carolina State (1-22,0-7) with seven kills.

Bethune-Cookman travels to Miami Tuesday for a Halloween night match with FIU at 6 p.m.

HEAD COACH BRITTANY WILLIAMS
"Words cannot express how proud I am of this group of seniors, my very first graduating class.  Thank you all for leaving your legacy."

[On the possibility of finishing the regular season with the program's first winning record since 2004]: We're focused every day on playing our game. If we do that, everything else takes care of itself."

NOTES: This was Bautista's five double-double of the season and her career-high hitting percentage … Chatman's 11 kills matched her career high … Neely has had eight matches with five or more blocks this season … Neely finishes her Moore Gym career 15-0 against MEAC opponents – Her lone home loss in MEAC play came last year when B-CU played its home matches at Warner Christian ... SCSU's 8 points in the third set were the lowest for a B-CU opponent since Savannah State scored just six in the first set in an October 28, 2011 ,atch ... B-CU finishes its home slate with a 6-2 mark for the second straight year.
