Two Wildcats Open Season at Jacksonville Classic

BCU women in action in Jacksonville

October 03, 2017

PONTE VEDRE BEACH, Fla. – A pair of Bethune-Cookman women's golfers opened up the 2017-18 season this week, with the duo competing as individuals at the 10th Annual Jacksonville Classic housed at Marsh Landing Country Club. The two-day event took place October 2-3, in Ponte Vedre Beach, Florida.

Yudika Rodriguez (75-73-72=220, +4) finished tied for fourth place overall in the field. The Salinas, Puerto Rico native lowered her scores each round of the two-day affair, including a third and final round even-par 72. She would tie Natalia Azcue (Flagler), Hayley McNeill (Charleston Southern) and Pan Paksanont (USC Upstate) for the fourth place finish.

Also shooting for the Wildcats was senior Mackenzie Butzer (82-71-81=234, +18), as the Chatham, Ontario native finished tied for 40th overall. After a tough opening round on Monday, she battled back in the afternoon session of her 36-hole day to finish with a 1-under 71 scorecard.

Tournament host Jacksonville (306-286-296=888, +24) took home the tournament's team title. Meanwhile, it was JU's duo of Amanda Detmer and Michelle Forsland matching each other for the top individual medalist award. No playoff holes occurred for the event.

Women's Golf is back in action October 16-17, competing in the FAU Fall Invitational in Boca Raton, Florida.
