DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman's
Rakaya Neely was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Volleyball Co-Player Of The Week while
Phalen Clark garnered Setter Of The Week honors, it was announced today [October 30, 2017].
Neely, a senior from Lake Wales, Fla. hit .444 against South Carolina State on Sunday, recording 10 kills to go along with six digs and five total blocks in one of her most complete matches of the season. This came after a nine-kill, two-block effort against Savannah State, and in six total sets over the weekend, Neely hit a combined .400 as Bethune-Cookman remained unbeaten in conference play.
Neely shared honors with Morgan State senior Keana Browne. This is Neely's second Player Of The Week recognition of the season.
Clark, a senior from Baton Rouge, La., averaged 12.5 assists per set as Bethune-Cookman picked up wins over Savannah State and South Carolina State. She had 40 assists in the straight-set win over South Carolina State, after recording 35 assists and 14 digs, to go along with two service aces, against Savannah State.
This is Clark's fourth award of the season.
Bethune-Cookman (10-11 overall, 7-0 MEAC) leads the MEAC's Southern Division by one match over Florida A&M, with the teams slated for a Sunday. The Wildcats travel to Miami Tuesday to face FIU (3-14) in a non-conference match at 6 p.m.
