@BCUWBB Concludes Non-Conference Play With Miami Loss

MIAMI -- Bethune-Cookman concluded its 2017-18 non-conference schedule Thursday with an 85-39 setback to Miami in the Watsco Center.

The Hurricanes (10-3) got 24 points from  Mykea Gray as they used a 19-0 first half run to pull away to a 45-11 halftime lead.

Ashanti Hunt, Chasimmie Brown and Angel Golden each scored seven points for the Lady Wildcats, now 8-4.

The Lady Wildcats shot a season-low 29.8 percent from the field.

Bethune-Cookman finished December with  a 5-2 record, its fifth consecutive winning month dating back to last season.

The Lady Wildcats open Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play January 3rd when they host South Carolina State at 5:30 p.m.

HEAD COACH VANESSA BLAIR-LEWIS

"The game plan was to not take quick shots and give Miami a chance to do what they do well -- run in transition. "

"This is not how we wanted to end our non-conference slate. We did learn some things about ourselves tonight, but the most important thing is that everybody was recruited to win the next 16 games."

"We wanted to show we could play with anybody. We're going to need it every night in the conference."

NOTES: This was the second time in a row an ACC team has held B-CU under 30 percent field goal shooting ... Both Gray and B-CU's Amani Ball played at National Christian Academy in Maryland ... The Lady Wildcats' lone win the series came in 1987-88 ... B-CU's eight non-conference wins are its most since 2009.
